Credit Card payments took as long as 3-4 minutes to physically perform at most stores back in the early 90s where I lived.
The store clerk would walk in the back room, pull out a huge machine that looked heavy. Write stuff on paper, then place the card and paper on the machine and swipe it back and forth. Half of the time they needed to grab a manager to make sure they wrote things the right way.
That's how bitcoin feels right now.
